ShiftRate (also referred to as “we,” “us,” or “our”) is currently operated as an Illinois sole proprietorship and is an independent iOS app for gig drivers. This policy applies to the ShiftRate app, shift-rate.com, and related support communications.
1. Information we collect
Account information
When you create an account, we collect your email address, an account identifier, and authentication information. Password authentication is handled by Supabase; ShiftRate does not store a readable copy of your password.
Shift and order records
We store information you enter or generate while using the service, including shift and order times, earnings and pay components, restaurant or store names, gig platform, mileage, odometer readings, goals, expense inputs, tax-rate inputs, and calculated summaries.
Vehicle information
If you use vehicle tools, we store vehicle details, odometer history, maintenance items, notes, and shift-linked vehicle or OBD summaries.
Location-derived mileage
If you enable GPS mileage and grant iOS location permission, ShiftRate uses Core Location during active orders to calculate distance. The app adds the distance between accepted location updates to an order’s mileage total. ShiftRate does not store or send the underlying latitude and longitude coordinates to its database. You can disable GPS in ShiftRate settings or iOS Settings.
OCR screenshots
ShiftRate uses Apple Vision on your device to recognize text from screenshots used for supported order-entry shortcuts. ShiftRate does not currently upload those screenshots or the recognized text to its servers. A shared screenshot may be held temporarily in the app’s private shared container so the main app can process it, then is removed when replaced, processed, or when you delete your account.
Beta diagnostics
During beta use, we may record limited product events such as app opening, onboarding completion, shift or order actions, shortcut use, OCR success or failure, and app errors. These records may include your account identifier, app version and build, iOS version, device model, a randomly generated session identifier, event source, and limited diagnostic properties. They do not include OCR screenshots, recognized screenshot text, passwords, or raw location coordinates.
Device settings
Preferences such as theme, goals, cost assumptions, selected gig apps, plan selection, GPS preference, onboarding state, and shortcut settings may be stored locally on your device. Some goal and operational records are also synchronized to your account.
2. How we use information
- Provide authentication and synchronize your records.
- Track and calculate earnings, time, mileage, goals, estimated expenses, tax reserves, and profit.
- Provide OCR-assisted order entry, vehicle tools, and driver analytics.
- Maintain reliability, diagnose errors, prevent abuse, and improve the beta.
- Respond to support, privacy, and account-deletion requests.
3. Service providers and disclosures
ShiftRate uses Supabase for authentication, database hosting, and backend infrastructure. ShiftRate uses RevenueCat to manage subscriptions and entitlement status. RevenueCat receives a ShiftRate account identifier and subscription transaction information needed to provide those services; Apple processes App Store payments. Apple also provides device frameworks such as Core Location, Vision, Shortcuts, and Live Activities under Apple’s own privacy terms. We disclose information to service providers only as needed to operate and secure ShiftRate, or when required by law, to protect rights and safety, or as part of a business transfer subject to appropriate safeguards.
ShiftRate does not sell personal information. The app does not contain third-party advertising and does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites for advertising.
4. Retention
Account and synchronized app records are kept while your account remains active. Beta diagnostic events are tied to your account and are deleted with it. Local preferences remain on the device until removed through account deletion, app controls, or uninstalling the app. When you use in-app account deletion, records are deleted from the active database immediately. Residual encrypted backups may remain temporarily under our infrastructure provider’s backup lifecycle and are used only for continuity or disaster recovery.
5. Your choices and account deletion
You may edit app records, disable GPS, change iOS permissions, or sign out at any time. To permanently delete your account, open Settings → Account → Delete Account, review the warning, type DELETE, and confirm. This deletes your authentication account, shifts, orders, goals, aliases, vehicle and maintenance records, OBD summaries, beta events, and ShiftRate’s local account data on that device. Deletion cannot be undone. Uninstalling the app alone does not delete synchronized server data.
If you cannot access the app, use the contact page to request help with deletion. We may need to verify that you control the account.
6. Security
We use platform authentication, database access controls, encrypted network connections, and provider safeguards designed to protect information. No storage or transmission method is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Children
ShiftRate is intended for adults who perform or evaluate gig work and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Contact us if you believe a child has provided information so we can investigate and delete it.
8. United States users and changes
ShiftRate is currently operated for users in the United States. Information may be processed where our service providers operate. We may update this policy as the product or legal requirements change. We will update the effective date and provide additional notice in the app when a change materially affects your privacy choices.
